Our October athlete of the month is newest British Fitness pro 33 year old Michelle Fredua-Mensah.
Little bit about yourself:
I have been involved in gymnastics since I was eight years old either as a gymnast, coach or a judge.
Competed in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Regionally and Nationally on numerous occasions. Also competed in Mixed Team Gym and went to the British Championships gaining a silver medal.
I have modeled for over 10 years and took part in a childhood passion of mine, ballet.
Learnt to go on pointe as an adult in my mid twenties as it was something I always wanted to do but could not mix with competitive gymnastics.
Also I am delighted to share that Ayvah, my eight year old daughter has become an avid gymnast herself and is showing incredible athletic promise.
At University, I went on to compete in Cheerleading for Brunel Blizzards, Ascension Eagles Legacy and Unity Ruby winning many national titles with all teams. In 2015, I competed in the World Championships where we placed in the top 10 in the world.
Although I gained a BSc in Biomedical Sciences my love and passion for gymnastics, bodybuilding and fitness has led me to become a full time coach and my degree studies has helped me to understand the mechanical and scientific aspects of all.
How did you get into fitness scene:
I lifted my first ever weight in June 2018. Had always been fascinated with bodybuilding but was not sure how to get into it.
As I went to do a photoshoot with a known fitness photographer we somehow got onto the topic of bodybuilding. I mentioned that I would like to explore and see if it is something I would enjoy.
That evening I contacted a recommended coach and 3 months later did my first bodybuilding competition.
Most Notable Achievement:
Winning Arnold’s Classic UK Pro Fitness and qualifying for the Olympia 2022.
What are your goals?:
To win the Olympia.
Last few words.
An integral part of my journey is being able to inspire girls and women to love their bodies and to know that they can indeed be that person they would like to be. I continue to be inspired by the saying: “Dream it. Believe it. Achieve it.”
